Book review: What would we do without Jill?

This story is written by M.D.Spenser. After reading this book, I found that this book is very interesting and full of suspense.

The main character in the story is Jill. She had no confidence of herself as she thinks that she is ugly and she has many friends because they pitied her. Her parents had divorced and she lived with her mother. However, her mother was always nasty to her. Therefore, Jill always wanted to be Molly, her best friend as Jill thinks that Molly is perfect, with loving family and friends. Thus, being Molly was what Jill always wished for.

One day, as Jill and Molly are walking on a pavement near Jill's house, a black car immediately stopped beside them. A man wearing sunglasses stepped out of the car and asked them the way to the concert hall. As the concert hall is near Jill's house, Jill then told them the directions. Jill and Molly then followed the car stealthily as they were curious at why were they asking directions for the concert hall when the hall was closed.

They then saw the men entering and leaving the hall through the window. However, they were not carrying anything and just drove off. Jill and Molly immediately called the police. However, the police found nothing after two hours. Molly's parents were called in. However, Molly's father was sure that they will not cheat the police. In contrast, Jill's mother wanted her to be caught by the police. Jill therefore slept in Molly's house that day.

Next morning, heart broken Jill went to the restroom and was wishing hard to be Molly after that incident. Suddenly, Jill saw her reflection through the mirror and was shocked that she had turned into Molly. Just then, she heard a knock on the toilet door and heard Molly's voice. She meekly opened the door and scared Molly as she saw her own reflection. After explaining did Molly calm down and told Jill to change back to her own form. Jill tried to wished hard and after much difficulties, she changed back to her own form. Therefore, Jill realised that she could morph.

There was a concert in the concert hall one day. Jill and Molly decided to go and watch it. Suddenly, they heard an announcement that the conductor, Maestro Andrews was caught by the bugler and everyone were told to remain in the seats. Jill immediately used her morphing power and morph into a police officer and pulled the alarm. Immediately, sirens could be heard outside the concert hall. Jill immediately aim her gun at the bugler. The buglers immediately fired their guns at her and unfortunately, a bullet grazed her. She knew that time could not be wasted anymore. She immediately morph back to her ownself.

She persuaded all audience to meet her in the back stage at 2 p.m. Then, she stealthily lead them to the buglers. They immediately start to scold the buglers and coner them. Immediately, all the buglers even the boss were very frightened and were forced to surrender.

Book Review: Chinese Cinderella by Adeline Yen Mah

Chinese Cinderella is a true story about an unwanted girl written by the author herself. This story is very touching as the author wrote about her past sorrows.

The main character in the story is the author, Adeline Yen Mah. When she was born, her mother had developed a fever after three weeks. When she was a moth old, her mother passed away. Therefore, all her siblings thought that she was a bad luck in the house as if she was not born, her mother would not have died. Adeline therefore shared the same room with her aunt since young and thus were very close.

Later on, Adeline's father married another woman and gave birth to two children, a boy and a girl. Therefore, there were twelve people in the house including her grandfather, grandmother and her aunt. Although Adeline and her siblings were also father's real children, everyone could see the difference her stepmother treat her own children to her stepchildren.

After Adeline's grandmother died, her stepmother thus became the monarch of the house. Although she treats her step children cruelly, her father will just remain silent.

As Japan had conquered China that year, the Japanese forced father to be their business partners. Father had no choice but stealthily escaped to shanghai with his family. As Adeline's father was a business man, he was thus rich and could buy a large house in Shanghai.

However, Adeline's stepmother will only allow her step children to live in the third floor and could only eat plain porridge with vegetables. Adeline's three brothers were ordered to keep their head bald while she and her sister were to cut their hair Short. On the contrary, her own children was allowed to eat whatever they like and could loiter around the house freely. They also have their hair cut in the most fashionable hair style at that point of time and they are allow to wear beautiful clothing whereas Adeline and her siblings could only wear the traditional old clothing.

Once, her friends came to her house wanted to give her a surprise party. However, her stepmother slapped and scolded Adeline in front of her friends and father and even sent her to an orphanage cum school. She was very sad as her father was siding her stepmother although she treats Adeline so cruelly.

She longed yearned to go to England's Oxford University to study and not be like her big sister, having an arranged marriage arranged by her stepmother so as to get rid of her big sister. Therefore, during the vacations in the orphanage school, when she came across an article which states a competition on book writing, she strives and hope that she would win the competition so as to make her father proud.

After a few months passed and yet she had not received any letter from the play writing board. She then started to give up her hopes of going to the university. However, just then, her father's chauffeur came and fetch her home to see her father. Adeline then realised that she had won the competition of the play writing.
